Most schools in Nyanza opened on Monday, a month behind the rest in the country. The turnout by learners was low, but many teachers reported to work. The education sector in Nyanza has been hard hit by violence arising out of the disputed presidential poll results. Gangs have been issuing threats to teachers and pupils against attending school.
