Universities in western Kenya are yet to resume normal teaching, as the election aftermath takes its toll on the education sector. Some professors have moved out of Kisumu due to fear of attack. Both students and lecturers fear violent student demonstrations.

Envoys call for quick solution to crisis

Five envoys have asked Kenyan leaders to quickly solve the political impasse so as to end further suffering, especially among the displaced. The envoys, speaking in Kisumu where they had visited the displaced camping in Kondele police station. “The leaders should address issues of ethnicity and unequal distribution of resources.”

Nyanza PC defends police action in Kisumu.

Nyanza Provincial Commissioner -PC- Paul Olando has justified the use of force to quell post election riots in Kisumu saying the town had to be saved from total collapse. Olando says the police only moved to contain the situation.

US govt is barring 10 Kenyan leaders from election violence

The U.S. government says it is barring 10 Kenyan leaders suspected of involvement in the post-election violence that has killed nearly 1,000 people. Kenya Television Network was told that 10 prominent Kenyans would be refused entry to the United States because of alleged association with the violence. Names of these individuals were not given.

Police officer to be prosecuted over Kisumu incident.

The police headquarters’ has issued a statement to clarify on the fate of the police officer who allegedly shot dead two youths in Kisumu during the peak of the post election violence. In the statement signed by the police spokesman, Eric Kiraithe the police immediately instituted an independent inquiry following the incident.

Policeman to face murder charges over Kisumu killings

A policeman captured on TV shooting at two demonstrators in Kisumu last month is to face murder charges in court. Police Commissioner Hussein Ali directed that the constable be charged with murder after an internal inquiry found that there was evidence connecting him to the shooting of the two demonstrators.
